Just forget the car, put on your hiking boots and off you go ... on a discovery of the hiking paradise of the Texel Group Nature Park, in the beautiful nature of the Merano and Val Venosta region. Right outside the Waldhof, there are several hiking trails leading you to alpine meadows and shady forests up to mountain huts and high peaks - far out to wonderfully green landscape corners, deep into the inner self. Pure discovery, in every sense.

You can explore the area on your own or with our competent and very friendly hiking guides Kurt, Manuela, Erich and Erich (that's right, we have 2 of them :)). They are sooo looking forward to meeting you!

Following the mountain water

Hiking tour to the Parcines Waterfall (1,073m)
6 km from the spa town of Merano, at the gateway to the Texel Group Nature Park, the quiet village of Parcines with its districts Rablà and Tel welcomes you. Nestled in the Lower Val Venosta Valley, homeland of Peter Mitterhofer, the inventor of the typewriter, Parcines is teeming with happy people, picturesque buildings (such as the Stachelburg and the Spauregg Castle), marvelous walking paths and mighty mountain peaks that frame the village like a precious painting. Recommended highlight: The Parcines Waterfall - one of the most beautiful natural attractions of the region.

  • Starting point: Hotel Waldhof
  • Trails: Take path no. 1 (from the Winkler Hof to the Birkenwald Restaurant); continue on path no. 23 to the "runway" of the waterfall and then walk up to the Gasthof Wasserfall (1,073m). Follow the asphalt road to the Birkenwald Restaurant, then proceed on path no. 1 to the Parcines Waalweg path. Take path no. 7A to return to Rablà.

Hike to the Stoanernen Mandlen (2,001m)
  • Starting point: Kampidell car park (1567m)
  • Trails: Take forest trail no. 5 to the Jenesier Jöchl (alpine pasture) and continue to the junction of paths no. 5A and 23A; take path no. 23 until you reach the Stoanernen Mandlen (2.001m). Then turn back to the Möltner Kaser Alm (1,763m) – great place for lunch. Trail no. 28 takes you to the Malga Giogo hut in Genesio and to the starting point of the hike (Kampidell car park).

  • Height difference: ↑ 484m ↓484m

Summit hike with top view

Hiking tour to the Orenknott (2.258m)
  • Starting point: Texel Cable Car valley station
  • Trails: The Texel Cable Car takes you up to trail no. 24 on the Merano High Mountain Trail to the Hochforch Restaurant. Trail no. 25 takes you first to the Orenalm and then to the top of the mountain (2,258m). To return, take trail no. 25A and then trail no. 2.
  • Walking time: approx. 4/4.5 h
  • Length: approx. 7.6 km
  • Height difference: ↑ 806m ↓765m

Between farms, house chapels and sunny slopes

Between the Val Senales and the Val Venosta valley: Merano High Mountain Trail – Monte Santa Caterina – Unterstell
  • Starting point: Val Senales valley-Monte Santa Caterina (1.245m)
  • Trails: Walk up the road (a few hundred metres), then turn right onto trail no. 24 (Merano High Mountain Trail). After the Innerunterstellhof farm (1,470m) take trail no. 24 and then on trail no. 10 to the cable car OR turn right onto trail no. 24A to the Patleidhof farm (1,386m). Finally, take trail no. 10 to the cable car.

Along peaceful watercourses

Stroll along the Waalweg path of Rablà
  • Starting point: Hotel Waldhof****, Rablà
  • Trails: After passing the bakery, take the road to Parcines and walk above the sports field. Turn left and, at the next crossroads. Turn left back to the starting point of the Waalweg path of Rablà
  • Follow the water to the Happichl Restaurant - with tasty dishes and a small zoo. From here walk down to the Geroldstraße street and, on the pavement, return to Parcines and the Hotel Waldhof.
  • Walking time: 40 min
  • Length: 2.3 km
  • Height difference: ↑↓50m

Discovering the Valico Pass

Hiking tour to the Sopranes Lakes
Nestled between the impressive mountains of the Texel Group Nature Park, at an altitude of between 2120 an 2590 meters, there is the beautiful Sopranes Lakes. Ten magnificent lake jewels - among the most beautiful of their kind in the Alpine region. The Long Lake, the Green Lake, the Black Lake: each lake is characterised by a particular shape and colour. Fancy some peace and quiet in untouched nature?

  • Starting point: Gondola basket lift Vellau (908m)
  • Trails: Take the gondola basket lift to the Leiter Alm (1,525m); on the Merano High Mountain Trail (path no. 24) walk to the Hochganghaus (1,839m). Take trail no. 7 to the Valico Pass (2,441m) and descend to the Sopranes Lakes, one of the highest-altitude alpine lake groups in Europe - 10 lakes surrounded by a splendid panoramic view. Turn left onto trail no. 7 and follow trail no. 23 to the Oberkaser Alm (2,131m), the ideal place for a lunch break! On the way back, take trail no. 22/25B to the Taufenscharte pass (2,230m); descend along the steep serpentine path to the Leiter Alm (1,525m) and in a couple of minutes you will reach the gondola basket lift (starting point).
